What he treats

Conditions of the brain,
skull and spine

Each page explains the condition in plain language: the signs, the tests, every treatment option including the ones that are not surgery, and what recovery looks like.

Do not wait on these

Symptoms that need
a scan, soon

Most headaches and most back pain are not serious. These are the patterns that are worth a proper look by a specialist.

A new, worsening headacheEspecially worse in the morning, or with vomiting
A first seizureA fit in an adult who has never had one
Weakness on one sideOr numbness, or a face that droops
Changes in speech or visionWords not coming, double vision, part of vision missing
Confusion after a fallEspecially in older people or anyone on blood thinners
Back pain with leg weaknessOr numbness in the saddle area, or bladder trouble

Emergency: a sudden, severe “worst ever” headache, sudden weakness or loss of speech, or a head injury with drowsiness or repeated vomiting needs the nearest emergency department now, not an appointment.

How a visit works

From the scan
to a plan

Most people arrive with a report they have read online at midnight. The consultation is where it gets explained properly.

  1. Book on WhatsApp

Message or call 98103 13392. Tell the clinic briefly what has happened and what scans you have.

  2. Bring every scan

MRI and CT films or CDs, reports, discharge papers, the medicines you take. Older scans help too.

  3. Understand your scan

Dr Gupta goes through the images with you: what is there, what it is likely to be, and what it is not.

  4. Decide together

Every option, including waiting and watching. If surgery is right, you will know why, how and what recovery looks like.

Back pain? Start with the bed and the chair

In under a minute, Dr Gupta explains in Hindi how something as ordinary as a soft mattress or your posture at a desk can be behind persistent back pain, and what to change before reaching for a scan.

  • Why a too-soft mattress lets the spine sag through the night
  • How long hours at a desk load the lower back
  • When back pain is a reason to see a spine surgeon

Questions

Before you book

When should I see a neurosurgeon rather than a neurologist?

A neurologist treats conditions of the brain and nerves with medicines, such as migraine, epilepsy and Parkinson’s. A neurosurgeon is the specialist when a scan shows something that may need an operation: a tumour, a bleed, an aneurysm, a compressed nerve or spinal cord, or a head or spine injury. Seeing a neurosurgeon does not mean you will need surgery; many consultations end with a plan that involves none.

What should I bring to the consultation?

Every MRI and CT you have, both the films or CD and the reports, discharge summaries, and a list of the medicines you take. Older scans are useful too: comparing them shows whether something is growing.

Where does Dr Gupta see patients?

At his clinic in 438, Avaj Tower, Sector 12, Vasundhara, Ghaziabad, Mon to Sat, 4 to 7 pm, and as Consultant Neurosurgeon at Yashoda Super Speciality Hospital, Vasundhara. WhatsApp or call 98103 13392 to book.

Can I get a second opinion on surgery another hospital has advised?

Yes, and it is common before brain or spine surgery. Bring the scans, the reports and what you have been told. You will get a clear explanation of the options, including when waiting and watching is reasonable.

Does Dr Gupta treat children?

Yes. Paediatric neurosurgery is one of his areas of work, including hydrocephalus, brain tumours and head injuries in children. He is a member of the International Society for Pediatric Neurosurgery.

Does he treat back pain and slip disc?

Yes. The clinic is a brain and spine clinic. Most back pain and slip discs get better without surgery, and the consultation is about finding out whether yours is one of the few that need more.
